The Taunton School Memories Project
For all OTs, Parents, Teachers and Friends around the world Founded in 1847, Taunton School has survived wars, pandemics, political unrest and financial uncertainty. We have nevertheless adapted and flourished over the years; today we embrace a community, of students, parents, teachers and friends from all over the world and from just down the road. We have welcomed children from every background and changed lives through education. We have created outstanding sportsmen and women, medical pioneers, war heroes, artists, academics, business entrepreneurs, achievers, dreamers and leaders of change. We will continue to do so. We’re asking our global community to share stories, photos and videos, to be collated, shared and ultimately used to celebrate our 175th anniversary in 2022.These memories remind us who we are, where we have come from and that we have a wonderful and exciting future to share together.

You can email your photos, audio and film footage to share with our community. We have created a special page on our website, so that you can view the results as they grow. In 2022, we will use the photos, quotes and stories, to create a permanent exhibition within the historic main building of our school for all to see.

Share your Career Story with our students
Would you share your career story? Submit a 3 minute film about how you achieved your career goals, where you studied and what you did, after you left school. These brief films will be shared with our students who are currently learning from home, with the full support of our talented teaching staff through our Virtual Learning Platform.

Message from David Bridges
President of the Old Tauntonian Association
One of the positive things about modern technology is that it enables us to engage with the past, link it to the present and, therefore, be able to share it with the future. Remembering the happy times of days gone by provides us with a certain nostalgic warmth.
It is during our schooldays that we make our first, maybe lifelong friends; we have our first ‘crush’; we revel in the excellence of the sports teams; we glory in the standard of the musical and dramatic performances; we learn the important lessons of life.
But what is the best part of school life? At Taunton School some might relish the great educational opportunities offered, the learning experience, the knowledge sharing; some might remember the Concerts, the Musicals, the dramatic productions; or it could be that defining moment in Chapel when the Preacher said something so profound that has stayed with you all your life. All these things have played a part in shaping who you are today.
It could be that the best part of school life was all the fun you had trying to get ‘one up’ on the teachers! As we have time to contemplate whilst working from home or being in isolation during this period of special measures, it may be that we are clearing out drawers of photographs, finding that back copy of the OT Review or searching for our peers on Facebook with the intention of tentatively renewing connection with our past.
Meeting up with OTs of all ages, as I travel around the various club events, I enjoy being able to share in your memories and witness the strong sense of camaraderie and loyalty you have to Taunton School. We might have moaned and grumbled our way through school but the innocent question “who remembers when.....? opens the door to recollecting those funny / profound moments in our school lives. Older OTs will remember a life at Taunton School without mobile phones, computers, calculators, heating or hot water whilst younger OTs cannot begin to contemplate life without such ‘luxuries’! Whatever your memories, please help us to share them as we begin planning our 2022 celebration of 175 years of Taunton School. Our aim is to collect a large portfolio of stories, photographs, audio, films and artefacts that we can share digitally as part of the celebrations, as well as creating a permanent display in the school to commemorate and celebrate the memories of a diverse group of people so important in the life and history of Taunton School.
I encourage OTs, OWs, parents, teachers and all members of our wonderful Taunton School community to be involved.
